What would your feeling will be like if you regain back your
life after more than 30 years in a catatonic state and later on lose back what
you have gained? Awakenings is about Leonard Lowe (Robert De Niro) who is
awakened by the persistence and dexterity of Dr. Malcolm Sayers (Robin
Williams). After some initial mystification, Leonard became extremely grateful
to the Doctor who have gave him a second
chance of living a normal life filled with plenty of love and laughter. Unfortunately,
after regaining his life, Leonard started to experience side effects from the
drugs and started to exhibit the symptoms of the catatonic disease. At the end
of the film, audience can see Leonard’s recorded speech which basically
delivers his thoughts possessed by his subconscious. His speech was definitely part
of his natural aggravation and not a side effect from the drugs (according to
my view).
We can thoroughly relate this movie to our lives as well,
and it doesn’t have to be a typical disease.
It may be all those tough times you been through throughout you lives. You
may even be going through a tough time now. This film will definitely boost you
up by teaching you what life is all about, and mainly it teaches us about
certain things that we don’t seem to realize, for example, we totally forgotten
that none of us has a full control of our lives as its part of the deal of
being a human. There is also a practical tip in this movie besides teaching us
to embrace life and love. Its all about appreciating your physical abilities,
which is the ability to move your body parts. We should learn to appreciate
that we can actually walk and run where lots of others who can’t. So learn to walk
around, doesn’t matter right or left, up on towards the cliff, backward or
straight. You will never know one day we might able to do all things that we
are capable to do so in current time in future.
So, live a life with a pupose filled with hope and passion
and most importantly LOVE!
“What we do know is that, as the chemical window
closed, another awakening took place; that the human spirit is more powerful
than any drug – and THAT is what needs to be nourished: with work, play,
friendship, family. THESE are the things that matter. This is what we’d
forgotten – the simplest things.” -Dr. Sayers, Awakenings
